In the county of Ayrshire there are many 13 th and 15 th Century castles and towers, and even prehistoric remains found in the East, notably the Dagon stone in Darvel. It is notable that William Wallace's family castle can be found in Kilmarnock , and it is suggested that Robert Burns wrote poetry at Mauchline. The airport is known as Glasgow Prestwick International Airport because Glasgow, Scotland's largest city is approximately 29 miles Northeast of the airport. Prestwick Airport is considered to be Scotland's fastest growing airport, and much of this success can be attributed to it's involvement with Europe's largest low cost airline, Ryan Air, who have regular flights to and from Prestwick.
